Why do you enjoy stories? To have fun? To laugh? To be scared? To fall asleep? To write that book report? People love stories for so many reasons. The more you read, the more you find certain characters and plots that are the same across many stories. But what if there were no stories? Many books are about the past. In some instances, stories are the only record we have that certain people ever lived. Would we still know who discovered America? Would we still know who invented the lightbulb? Stories can also be shared through speech. If we can’t tell anyone about what happened last year or at breakfast today, what would the world be like? The farthest people could get in a conversation would be, “Hi, how are you?” “I am fine. How are you?” “I’m good. Bye!” “Bye!” What would be better? What would be worse?
