Being a paramedic is one of the most important jobs in the world! Paramedics are the heroes who rush in during emergencies, whether it’s a car crash, a medical issue, or someone in danger.
They are trained to help keep people safe and save lives, staying calm and strong even in tough situations.

When we think of paramedics, we usually imagine adults. But have you heard about the amazing 10-year-old paramedic?
Meet Jack Dawson, a 10-year-old who teaches adults how to save lives as a mini-medic. His grandfather runs a first response company in Staffordshire, England, and Jack would ride along in the ambulances with the flashing lights.
By age two, he knew he wanted to be a paramedic. He was already practicing “CPR” on his teddy bears at just three years old.
Pretty cool, right?
Jack’s mom, Danielle, said, “At the same time he was learning to talk, my husband and I decided to teach him first aid. He was like a sponge. He just picked everything up so quickly.”

Believe it or not, Jack picked up CPR, knew the recovery positions, and quickly learned how to use a defibrillator.
With help from his dad and other trainers, Jack started leading his own workshops. They work with a charity called Tamworth Have A Heart, which wants to make defibrillators available to everyone and teach people how to use them.
According to Danielle, Jack’s motto is, “If I can save a life, then you can.”
Jack teaches kids and adults how to do CPR and use defibrillators during his workshops. He also checks the public defibrillators in his town to make sure they’re ready to use. His classes usually have 20 to 40 people, but sometimes even 100 join in!
During his classes, Jack shows step-by-step how to perform CPR with practice dummies on the floor. He emphasizes the importance of being careful, like checking the patient’s airways before starting CPR in case there’s vomit or blood.

He also explains how to use defibrillators, which can save someone who has suddenly collapsed from a heart issue.
According to Danielle, “He absolutely loves teaching. I’ve never seen him so confident before, and the fact he’s helping people to save a life determines him even more.”
People are often surprised by his talent. He gets lots of positive feedback and even special requests for more lessons. Many feel inspired learning from a kid, thinking, “If a 10-year-old can do this, so can I.”
Because of his hard work, Jack is now a finalist for the Children of Courage Birmingham Awards. He’s excited about the future and looks forward to attending university and becoming a paramedic one day.
Here’s a fun fact: Jack has a YouTube channel and a TikTok page called ‘Mini Medic,’ where he shares medical tips and training for those who can’t attend his classes.
