Luckily, we were all searing hot as the chef said, and Johnathan dropped us as quickly as the oven heats up. We all dropped to the ground on the kitchen floor and rolled in several different directions. Checkers was shrieking in fear. He and Crumbles inconveniently rolled the exact opposite way than me, and right at that moment the chef, which turned out to be Johnathan’s dad, came in the room.

“Johnathan Road Brooke! What do you have to say for yourself? I am very ashamed of you!”

“Sorry, dad. But I was just so hungry, and it just ain’t right for a man to wait for stuff like cookies.”

“Good gentlemen will wait for however long they have to! You just wasted a good three cookies there!”

“I said I was a man, and a gent’men ain’t the same thang!”

Crumbles had stopped rolling and was now behind the pantry.

“Oh, Checkers, won’t ya just hush? It’s over now, and all we have to do is find Esie again and escape!”

“THERE IS NO ESAPE FROM THE DREADED JONATHIN MONSTER!”

“Checkers, just shut up!”

Checkers looked hurt and stopped yelling immediately.

“I can spell Pekwachnamaykoskwaskwaypinwanik and you can’t spell Johnathan?”

“What is Peckwatchthemanofmayokioskmaskwaypintrestwakeup?”

“Pekwachnamaykoskwaskwaypinwanik is a lake in Manitoba, Canada. Now, hush, please.”

Crumbles was observing the landscape, searching for me. Of course, I rolled behind the oven, and was out of eyeshot from there.

“We’ll need to get to higher ground,” Crumbles decided, “We need to climb the table.

“THE TABLE!? BUT THAT’S WHERE THE CHEF IS AT!”
