Crayola is one of the most famous and beloved crayon brands in the world. For over 120 years, kids and adults have used Crayola to add color and creativity to their drawings and crafts.

It’s been a big part of many childhoods, too. I remember using Crayola, too, and my school supplies always felt incomplete without it at the beginning of the school year.

Did you know that Crayola has retired some crayon colors to introduce new colors over the years?

A big change happened in 1990 when they removed colors like “Macaroni and Cheese” and “Raw Umber.” Then, in 2003, they retired “Dandelion,” which was special because it had been one of the original colors since 1903. They also renamed “Indian Red” to “Chestnut” after retiring it.

Many fans have been asking for some old favorite crayons to return for years.

Well, guess what! Crayola is bringing back eight retired crayon colors in Limited Edition packs.

That’s right—this is the first time ever that they are reintroducing these colors.

The returning colors are:

  • Orange Red (retired in 1990)
  • Violet Blue (retired in 1990)
  • Lemon Yellow (retired in 1990)
  • Raw Umber (retired in 1990)
  • Blizzard Blue (retired in 1990)
  • Magic Mint (retired in 1990)
  • Mulberry (retired in 1990)
  • Dandelion (retired in 1990)

You can find them in different forms, like the Limited Edition Retired Colors 8-Count Crayon Pack and Limited Edition Colored Pencil and Marker packs. This is a homage to the original eight crayon boxes first introduced in 1903.

Victoria Lozano, Chief Marketing Officer of Crayola, said, “As a first in the history of Crayola, we could not be more excited to bring back this beloved Limited Edition color collection that will give kids even more opportunities to colorfully put their imagination into action. Color has such a personal connection for kids of all ages. It plays a pivotal role in inspiring creativity, which is an integral catalyst for educational, emotional and cognitive growth. At Crayola, we celebrate the enduring value of childhood creativity to help kids reach their full potential, and we look forward to seeing the Limited Edition colors inspire even more creative moments for our fans.”

Limited Edition retired color collection will be available in various products, including crayons, markers, colored pencils, activity kits, and themed coloring books. You can find these items at most national retailers throughout 2025.
