Happy Black History Month Guys!
Black History Month is a celebration of great achievements by African Americans and their important role in U.S. history.
It was created in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson who was a well known African American historian. It has always been celebrated in February.
Here is a list of some great African Americans.
- George Washington Carver – derived nearly 300 products from the peanut.
- Rosa Parks – Helped start the Montgomery Bus Boycott and jump started the civil rights movement.
- Shirley Chisholm – The first African American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
- Jack Johnson – The first African American man to hold the World Heavyweight Champion boxing title in 1908.
- John Mercer Langston – The first Black man to become a lawyer when he passed the bar in Ohio in 1854.
- Thurgood Marshall – The first African American appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
- Hiram Rhodes Revels – First African American elected to the U.S. Senate.
- Hattie McDaniel – The first African American performer to win an Academy Award.
- Jackie Robinson – First African American to play Major League Baseball.
- Robert Johnson – First African American billionaire when he sold Black Entertainment Television (BET).
- Barack Obama – First Black U.S. President.
- Kamala Harris – First Black U.S. Vice President.
