In August 9, 1173, construction started on a tower made of marble and rock called the Leaning Tower of Pisa. But in the late 1170’s thanks to the soft ground, it began to lean. To stabilize the lean, engineers dug a series of tunnels in a particular way, and steel cables also helped a lot in the process. Today, the tower is a famous tourist attraction. It is popular to pose in such a way that is seems as if you are “holding up” or “pushing down” the tower.
