Amelia Earhart – you know her, you love her, and she is probably the most influential woman in aviation history.
But what happened during her international flight with navigator Fred Noonan? Let’s discuss the theories.
Normal Theory: She crashed her plane in the ocean and either died on impact with Noonan or drowned. This theory is supported by debris found in 1997 that is proven to be debris from her plane.
Coconut crab theory: She got to a desert island with Noonan, where the two starved to death and were eaten by coconut crabs, which dragged most of their bones to their burrows.
This theory is supported by bones found on an island close to the crash site where bones partially proven to be Earhart’s and Noonan’s were found.
My personal shark theory: This has zero evidence to support it, but it’s still a possibility.
Noonan and Earhart escaped the plane before they drowned but were devoured by sharks as they were swimming to the nearest island.
Japanese theory: She was shot down by the Japanese, captured, and either secretly held in captivity or executed by the Japanese. This theory is heavily supported by evidence of Japanese soldiers claiming that two prisoners with an
EXTREMELY similar description to Noonan and Earhart, who were captured around the same time that the plane crashed. It is also supported by this photo:
Personally, I believe the Japanese theory is probably the most true, but what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!
