Written by I assume you’ve seen therians around either the internet or in public, and many wonder what they are.
I’ll help you out with that 🙂
Therians are people who identify or associate with animals. Though it is common, therians do NOT always have past lives. Some associate with animals due to a spiritual connection, and engage in the community because of it.
Being a therian is not a choice unless you are an otherkin, who engages with the community, embracing the lifestyle and core of an animalistic identity, but is not a therian according to the standards of being one. You must be BORN as a therian to fully be one.
The therianthropy experience is different for everybody, but common signs you are one are:
- Random Animalistic Urges
- Phantom Limbs (Sensation / Thought of having an animal’s tail, ears, wings, etc.)
- A Heavy Connection to the animalistic world
Now, it’s important to understand this: Therians come in all shapes and sizes.
Things like Otherhearts, Polytherians, Fictionkins, and even Cladotherians exist, and are accepted among us as family in its entirety.

You are not REQUIRED to support the therian community, but it is highly encouraged. Sending hate comments on posts from people being themselves only boosts their popularity, considering you are still engaging.
If you dislike them, then scroll! Click off! Get off your phone and consider that you aren’t the only person in this world with emotions, for once.

- “Furry” Furries are non-identifying people associated with anthropomorphic characters, usually animals.
- “Weirdo” By human standards, Therians are irregular. But we are not weird for having an identity, expressing ourselves freely, and engaging in healthy activities with our community. Also, this title is often embraced by our community!
- “You’re a human.” Physically, yes. Also humans are ALSO animals, so why shouldn’t we be called animals as a normality?
- “Furrys” Furries*. Please work on your spelling. (Had to add this one)
